HISTORY OF ST AIDANS
The Guest Cottage was originally part of St. Aidan's College. It was built in 1875 and served as the laundry to the College. When it closed down it was bought by a private individual who turned it into a hotel. However the venture was not a success and the government purchased it to be used as the East Cape Education Department. The Guest Cottage has a separate title deed and up until the current owner bought it, it was used as a private home.
It is now owned by Robyn James who did extensive renovations to the building. It has been restored most magnificently and is now little piece of history well worth visiting. A water well was discovered under the house and as a result St. Aidan's have their own source of water and are not dependent on Municipal water!. Whilst many of the original features were preserved emphasis has been on cosiness and comfort.
